Il faut dire ici qu’au cours de ses insomnies cet homme, Yves pour ne pas le nommer, a mis au point l’ultime perfectionnement de sa technique de plantation. Le perfectionnement qui ne sera pas remis en question avant au moins trois mois. Je m’explique :
Le Tiramisu (parfois Yves parle de « mozarella », mais ça le fait moins), une technique en passe d’être brevetée, consiste à creuser un trou d’une cinquantaine de cm, d’en tapisser le fond avec de l’argile. L’argile est censée retenir l’eau en cas de sécheresse. Puis le planteur répand une couche de terreau, puis du crottin d’âne émietté, puis de la terre locale. Après avoir fait une petite pause réparatrice, le planteur dispose le plant prenant soin que la terre qui protège les racines ne se perde pas. Il faut alors tasser le sol afin que des cryptes ne se forment exposant les radicelles à l’air. C’est ensuite le protocole éprouvé du paillage en cercle, de la protection par le filet anti-chevreuil, des branchettes, du paillage périphérique dit du « deuxième cercle » et enfin du dégagement de proximité, pour la lumière. On pourrait ainsi passer une demi-heure sur chaque plant.
Je vois un avantage à cette manière de faire exigeante, les propriétaires complaisants se faisant rares, l’Association peut fort bien s’occuper sur les quelques kilomètres déjà plantés. L’entretien, l’arrosage en été, le remplacement des pins décédés, la reprise des travaux précédents, tout cela justifie nos déplacements et les moments conviviaux qui les accompagnent. Nos successeurs verront à compléter les 245 km qui manquent.
Le soir venant, les outils sur l’épaule, nous sommes revenus par la piste, dans la paix des Landes troublée parfois par les appels des grues volant en bandes vers leur havre nocturne.
Et la pluie, direz-vous. Quelle pluie ? Nous n’avons rien remarqué sous nos cirés, les bottes aux pieds. Sauf Katy, naufragée dans un fossé.
